Pelham Science Research Program's Annual Wag-a-Thon: A Walk for Science and Community

It was a beautiful Sunday, October 22, when the Pelham Science Research Program came together for our annual Wag-a-Thon. This event not only brought our program closer but also allowed us to engage with the community, raise essential funds for Amplify Pelham Science Research, and showcase the incredible work of our young scientists. Here's a glimpse of this fantastic day.

Bringing Science and Community Together

The Pelham Science Research Program's annual Wagathon is a much-anticipated event, and this year was no exception. Students, parents, teachers, and community members gathered on the Esplanade, just south of Boston Post Road, to celebrate science, research, and the spirit of togetherness.

Connecting with the Community

One of the highlights of the Wagathon was the opportunity for parents and community members to engage with our science research students. In one-on-one or small group conversations, they delved into the details of ongoing research projects, learning more about the incredible work our students are doing. It was a chance for students to share their passion for science and for the community to witness the dedication and innovation that thrive within our program.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters, both those who joined us in person and those who generously donated online. Your support is instrumental in driving our program forward and ensuring our young scientists have the resources they need to excel in their research endeavors.

Walking for a Cause

The Wagathon walk itself was a scenic journey taken with our canine friends. Starting on the Esplanade, walkers headed south to Grant Ave before looping back to the starting point. The picturesque route mirrored the determination and enthusiasm of our students and supporters.

Food for Thought

To keep everyone energized, we had a variety of baked goods, food, and beverages for sale. These provisions were not only delicious but also served a noble cause: supporting our program and its initiatives.

Funds that Make a Difference

The funds raised during the Wagathon play a vital role in supporting various aspects of our program that go beyond the daily school budget. They offset expenses related to experimenting with new materials, offer student grants for research ideas, cover registrations for students who require financial assistance, and even provide Science Research-branded merchandise to promote the program's identity. Moreover, these funds ensure that our dedicated young scientists have access to late-night sustenance and snacks as they tirelessly work in preparation for various symposia throughout the school year.

In conclusion, the Pelham Science Research Program's annual Wag-a-Thon was a tremendous success. It exemplified the power of community, science, and dedication coming together for a common cause. We are immensely grateful for all the support and look forward to another year of innovation and scientific exploration.

Thank you for being a part of our journey towards a brighter scientific future!

Below are quotes from participants from all 4 grades regarding the Wagathon:

“I really appreciated the opportunity to converse and engage with fellow research students! As an underclassmen, I found it very important to see what my future as a research student will hold. I enjoyed learning about the possibilities that I can explore, and seeing the program build up even more is inspiring. I look forward to future events and Beltecas’s gyros!”
Josie Kagan, 9th grade

“The 2023 research Wag-a-thon was a great way to bring the community into the research world, I had a blast with everyone's dogs and got to learn a little bit about different projects.”
Emma Schlumbum, 10th grade

“It was great to see a big turnout of students at the Wag-a-thon and see that we were all coming together to help the program. There was just a great energy in the air.”
Axel Robinson, 11th grade

“My favorite part of the Wag-a-thon was meeting members of the community that are passionate about supporting this program! This was a laidback way to engage the community in the program’s research and fundraise for AMPLIFY, which benefits not only the seniors, but the program overall. I really liked the music and the vibes were immaculate and I appreciated that it was outside, conversing with friends and walking our dogs!”
Isaac Lief, 12th
